EVANS MILLS, NY – There are some nights at the track that are special. There could be extra lap races, large purses, special giveaway or other series visiting the raceway.
Saturday night was a special night for a reason off the track. We celebrated and remembered the life of Nicole Berry-Garnsey. Nicole was the type of person to bring hope and comfort to people just when they needed it most and put a smile on your face at just the right time.
We are so proud to help to continue Nicole’s mission and thankful partner with Carthage Area Hospital for this great event.
It is with pride and gratitude that the Berry and Garnsey Families together with the Evans Mills Raceway Park announce the “Nicole Berry-Garnsey Hand Up Award”. Through the incredible generosity of a close family friend that practices medicine in Seattle, Washington, each week an EMRP racer deserving of a “Hand Up” will receive a $100 gift card, In Memory of Nicole’s Kind, Generous and Loving Spirt. The first winner of the “Nicole Berry-Garnsey Hand Up Award” was Rick Knapp of Rochester, NY, driver of the #11 Caskinette Ford Modified.
The first feature of the evening was the Excess Storage Pro Late Models. Josh Verne Jr. (#1V) and Mark Barker (#77) were the pole sitters. Verne jumped out to the early lead, followed by Chuck Meyer (#3) and Barker. A caution for debris on lap 5, followed by a caution on the restart resulting from contact between Barker and Joel Hargrave (#71). On the restart, Verne still controlled the pace, but Rylee Gill (#57) began his march to the front from his 5 place starting spot. On lap 8, Gill used the high groove to take over second from Meyer. By lap 12, Gill was side by side with Verne. Gill was too strong on the high side; picked up his second win in a row. Verne finished second and Meyer finished third.
The Christman Fuel Service INEX Legends were next up. Coleby Felber (#14) and Zack Anderson (#46) started on the front row. Felber would get the jump on Anderson on the start and never look back. Felber went on to score his second win of the season and Anderson finished second.
21 Caskinette Ford Modifieds took the green flag for their feature. Kevin Timerman (#11T) and Matt Caprara (#29) brought the field to the green flag. An early and only caution flew on lap one for a spinning Tony Pettinelli (#2NY) in turn 4. On the restart, Timerman controlled the pace with Caprara following. Lap 9, saw Tyler Catalano (#64) pass his brother Trevor Catalano (#54) for third. On lap 14, Tyler Catalano would get by Caprara on the outside and set his sights on the leader. By lap 19, Catalano would get under Timerman to take the lead. Catalano would go on to take the checkers and earn his second win at the raceway in three starts. Caprara would finish second, Timerman third, Taylor Caprara (#21) finished fourth and Mike Ramos (#09) rounded out the top five.
4-Cylinder Trucks were next onto the raceway. Bob Schroy (#33) and Brody Davis (#9D) would start on the front row. Schroy would get the early lead, but Davis would be close behind. Davis would try multiple times to get by Schroy, but could not find enough speed. As the leaders worked through lap traffic Pete Willsie (#01) joined the mix for the lead. Neither Davis nor Willsie could make a line work and Schroy went on to pick up the feature win. Davis finished second and Willsie finished third.
The Sport Compacts and Thunderstocks concluded the evening as rain showers started to move in over the raceway. An early caution flew as Billy Matteson (#00) and Anthony Pettinelli (#5A) came together in turn 4, unfortunately ending both drivers night. On the restart, Mike Greenfield (#17) took the lead followed by Kevin Greenfield (#11A). On lap 3, Trever Halladay worked the outside groove and passed both Greenfield’s to take the lead. A quick caution came on lap 8. On the restart, it was still Halladay, but Kevin Greenfield was able to get by Mike Greenfield for second. Justin Coachman (#7) made his move on Mike Greenfield on lap 10 to take over third place. Halladay would go on to pick up the feature win. Kevin Greenfield was able to hold on to second, despite crossing the finish line sideways, after contact from Coachman, who finished third. Kevin Greenfield was the first place Thunderstock, followed Mike Greenfield and Frank Brown (#3) respectively. The NNY Racing Connection-North Country Custom Embroidery Hard Luck Award winner went to Billy Matteson. He will receive a NNY Racing Connection Hat and $25 gift card to North Country Custom Embroidery.
Next week, Saturday July 31st, F.X. Caprara Harley Davidson presents Bike Night. The Caskinette Ford Modifieds, Excess Storage Pro Late Model, Christman Fuel Service INEX Legends, Sport Compact/Thunderstock and 4-Cylinder Trucks will be in action. In addition to the races, we will have Driver trike races, bike giveaways and our second skid plate. Pit Gates open at 3pm, General Admission at 5pm, Racing starts at 6:30pm. Pit Pass $30, General Admission $12, Military $10, Children 10-17 $6, Under 9 Free with paid adult.
