EVANS MILLS, NY – After mother nature prevailed last week, we were greeted with a beautiful night of racing, with temperatures in the 60’s and racing presented by Caskinette Ford and NAPA Auto Parts. It was the perfect setting to celebrate our nation’s 71st Armed Forces Day, as we honored all of our active duty and retired military service men and women. The entire EMRP staff would like to thank all of our military for their continued sacrifice to our great nation.
The night started with the Sport Compacts feature which included the Thunderstocks and the 4-cylinder Trucks. Joe Pettinelli in the #5 and #111J of AJ St. Mary brought the field to the green flag. Pettinelli was able to clear St. Mary before exiting turn 2. Pettinelli would lead the first 3 laps under pressure from week 1 winner, Trevor Halladay in the black #23T. Halladay would take the lead on lap 3. Pettinelli would regain the lead on lap 7 exiting turn 2. However, Halladay would reclaim the lead on lap 9 and be able to work through lap traffic and pick up his second win in a row. Pettinelli would finish second and St. Mary finished third in his first race of the year. Justin Coachman pick up his first feature win in the Thunderstocks and Pete Willsie earned the victory in the growing 4-cyclinder Truck class.
Pro Late Models were next onto the speedway for their 15 lap feature. Chuck Meyer (#3) and Josh Verne Jr (#1V) started on the front row and paced the field early. Meyer would lead early with Verne patiently following behind. Meyer would exit turn 4 high on lap 11 and Verne looked to the inside but Meyer was able to hold him off heading into 1. By the next lap Verne was able to get by Meyer on the inside and pick up his first win of the season. Meyer would finish second and Taylor Doxtater in the #60 would finish third.
The third feature of the night would be the INEX Legends. Dalton Rombough in the #33 and Colby Felber in the #14 would make up the first row. On the start, both drivers made it through turns 1 and 2 side by side and headed into turn 3. Felber would lose control and spin. Breanne Gilligan would check up to avoid Felber, unfortunately it collected Zack Anderson in the #46. No drivers were hurt, but Gilligan’s and Anderson’s night were over. On the restart Rombough would start on the pole with Tyler Christman in the #27 to his outside. Rombough was able to clear Christman by the backstretch. Christman was able to stay within striking distance of Rombough, but never close enough to make a pass. Rombough picked up the win, Christman was second and the #92 of Jason Christman was third.
22 Caskinette Ford Modifieds started final feature of the night which was brought to green by the #21 of Taylor Caprara and the #81 of Chris Finocchario. By the exit of turn 2, Finocchario was able to clear Caprara and lead the first 10 laps until the first caution. A four car spin in turn 2 which collected Terry Gardner (#41), Nate Plantz (#11), Andre Roggie (#03) and Josh Schoonmaker (#84). On the cone restart Finocchario and Caprara would choose the inside and Russ Brown in the #16 would move up a spot and choose to start on the outside of the front row. The restart would find Finocchario again in the lead heading down the backstretch. The final caution would come on lap 13 for a spin from the #1 of Chris Ridsdale in turn 2. Finocchario would again reclaim his lead on the restart. He would find pressure from the #29 of Matt Caprara. For the remaining laps Caprara would put constant pressure on Finocchario, but could not find a way around. Finocchario would lead all 30 laps, earning his first win of the season and his second top 3 of the year. Matt Caprara would finish 2nd, Russ Brown finished 3rd, Taylor Caprara was 4th and Mike Ramos (#09) would round out the top 5.
