Rogers, McVetta, and Martinez Score Big at the John Burr Classic!

EVANS MILLS, NY – Coming into the final race of the season at the Evans Mills Raceway Park, there were story lines galore! The 6th Annual John Burr Classic was supported by our great friends at TJ Toyota of Potsdam, Waite Toyota in Watertown, Ken Tibbles Roofing, and NAPA Auto Parts. The Christman Fuel Service INEX Legends would race for an enormous check of $1,300 to win in honor of Kevin Ward Jr. and his legacy driving the #13 sprint car around the northeast. Ward family members and business owners Kevin Ward Sr. and Daniel Herring helped support the event with their businesses Westward Painting Company, and Herring Log Home Restoration.

The ISMA MSS Supermodifieds entered their final points paying event with the top five drivers separated by only 88 points. Tyler Shullick held the lead by two points over Mike McVetta.

 

Garret Nier a student at Carthage High School would start the evening’s festivities with a great performance of the Canadian and American National Anthem. The ISMA MSS Supermodifieds would jump into Time Trials. Mike McVetta left time trials with a one point lead over Tyler Shullick in the Championship race after scoring his second Quick Time award at EMRP with a lap time of 12.177. Jeff Abold would be second best at 12.246, followed by Tyler Thompson, 12.309. Tyler Shullick would qualify fourth at 12.334.

The Christman Fuel Service INEX Legends would then group qualify next to set the first 16 cars of their feature. Brayton Malbeuf would set the pace with a quick time of 16.486. Behind him would be Brandon Martinez 16.526, Josh Oomen 16.543, and Adam Cuthbertson 16. 625.

Tony Pettinelli and Erik Gall would bide their time as the feature race played out for the Classic Asphalt Modified Series. As laps wound down, Pettinelli would start making his move in the #79 machine eventually going on to land in the Thousand Island Bait Store victory lane.

Brayton Malbeuf and Joel Hall would run towards the front of the Kevin Ward Jr. Legacy Race, but it would be Brandon Martinez continuing his strong weekend that would take the win. Devin Thornton would look strong near the front while Breanne Gilligan and Josh Oomen would round out the top three behind Martinez. Members of the Ward and Herring family would join Martinez in victory lane with a $1,300 check, a guitar gifted by Pastor Bob Sly, and Landen Herring’s INEX Legend.

Four laps into the race, contender Jeff Abold would spin in turn two and require the safety team to extinguish a fire in his #05 machine. Camden Proud would hold strong at the front of the field for a while but eventually Mike McVetta, Mike Ordway Jr., and Tyler Shullick would find  their way to the front. once McVetta got out front, he seems to extend the lead more and more each lap until the end where he scored his first Evans Mills win and another Owner and Driver’s Championship.
