Photo Finish for Sport Compacts, and Roggie’s First of the Year

Evans Mills, NY- A special night of racing was on the card Saturday at the Evans Mills Raceway Park as they honored the life of Nicole Berry-Garnsey.  Nicole was that person who always brought smiles to people’s faces when they needed it most.  EMRP is honored to host this event and help continue to spread her message.

Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY would Present the evenings action. They had 120 employees and family members in attendance for the race including doctors, nurses, surgeons, and more. It was a first time for many, and all had fun. Samaritan CFO Maxine Briggs would wave the green flag for the Sportsman Modifed feature with the help of Brady Berry on the stand. Melissa Beckwith would start the INEX Legends field of course rooting for Brody Beckwith, and Brad Berry’s son would waive the green flag for the Pro Late Models on the night honoring his aunt. Other Samritan employees were treated to rides in the Caskinette Ford Pace Bronco all night including Stephanie Peck, the Emile Shumbusho, Jada Adams, and a member of the Beckwith fan base.

The midway was lined with swag and handouts from Samaritan including foam finger, A quilt raffle to benefit Hospice of Jefferson County with quilts made by Box Office Specialist Lynda Vaadi, and a raffle for WE Racing/David Paige autographed items in connection with his sponsor Parkstead Properties.

The Christman Fuel Service INEX Legends started the features with Camdin Cook and Jayden Hall starting on the front row.  Cook would lead the first 5-laps after suffering a difficult week last week.  However, on lap 6, his fortune wouldn’t change as he made contact with a newly lapped car, sending him to the pits for repairs.  Kyle Hart would take control of the race on the ensuing restart.   Hart would keep his lead through two restarts on lap 8.  Chris Malbeuf would work his way up to the second position and show a nose to the inside of hart with two to go, but couldn’t find the speed needed to pass as Hart would win his 3rd feature in the last 4 weeks.  Feature Results: 1)Kyle Hart, 2)Chris Malbeuf, 3)Mitchell Wright, 4)Camdin Cook, 5)Joel Hall, 6)Cody Draper, 7)Evan Thomas, 8)Carrie Ann Carr, 9)Brayton Malbeuf, 10)Jayden Hall, 11)Brody Beckwith, 12)Devin Thornton, 13)Damon Bush

Geoff Sharkey and Kevin Warren were the pole sitters for the Caskinette Ford Sportsman Modified 35-Lap feature.  Sharkey opened an early lead, with Tony Pettinelli quickly working into the second position.  Pettinelli would close the gap as the first 17 laps would run caution free.  Rick Brunelle and John Ramsey would come together in turn 4 bringing out the caution.  On the restart, Pettinelli would get by Sharkey taking over the lead and start to pull away.  A lap 22 caution would erase Pettinelli’s lead, as Jeff Pringle found himself in the second position.  Pringle would keep pressure and bumper on Pettinelli for the lead before losing coming out of turn 4 on lap 25.  Andre Roggie would move up to the second spot and begin to chase down the leader.  By lap 31, Roggie would use the high side of the track on the exit of turn 4 and take over the lead.  Roggie would lead the final 4 laps to pick up his first win of the season.  Feature Results: 1)Andre Roggie, 2)Tony Pettinelli, 3)Kreig Heroth, 4)Joe Papin, 5)Kaden Rogers, 6)Jeff Pringle, 7)Geoff Sharkey, 8)Scott Dinzler, 9)Cory Trombley, 10)Kevin Warren, 11)Randy Brunelle, 12)Levi Arthur, 13)Matt Sharkey, 14)John Ramsey, 15)Rick Brunelle

The Excess Storage Pro Late Model were up next as Tyler Papin and Rylee Gill started on the front row.  On the start, it would be all Gill as he raced to the early lead.  Papin tried to keep Gill in sight, but it was to no avail.  Gill would be the man to beat as he won his 5th feature of the year.  Feature Results: 1)Rylee Gill, 2)Tyler Papin, 3)Chuck Meyer, 4)James Kiah

The final feature was the Sport Compacts and Thunderstocks with Kevin Greenfield and David Liscum as the pole sitters.  Greenfield would take the early lead and not look back.  The feature would run caution free as Greenfield would cruise to his 6th victory of the season.  The Sport Compacts would see the second consecutive lead change on the final lap.  Chuck Powelczyk led the first 14 laps as Justin Coachman ran down the leader in the closing laps.  As Powelczyk and Coachman entered turn 3, lapped traffic would be a factor.  Powelczyk went high, which allowed Coachman to get the inside line.  As they exited turn four Coachman would have the run and cross the finish line 0.015 seconds ahead of Powelczyk.  Coachman finished on the opposite side of the last lap pass this week. The racing takes a break next week as the 2Xtreme Monster Truck show invades Evans Mills Raceway Park for a two-day show on Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23.  You can purchase tickets on our website at evansmillsracewaypark.com.  Racing will resume on July 29 for Christmas in July.
